Originating in 16th century Venice, what we now call "milk glass" originally came in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. The white variety that is commoosen today gained popularity during the Victorian era, when it was sought after as a more economical alternative to porcelain. Its production and popularity lessened during the Great Depression but saw a resurgence after World War II.
